US Proposed Pattern J-1212
The obverse has Longacre's design as used previously on the Standard Silver series in bold, featuring Medal grade relief rarely seen in US coins. The reverse has the Commercial Dollar design, first proposed in the previous year and 420 grains Surrounded by a Laureate Crown. This is a predecessor to the Trade dollar and features elements that would be kept in the design. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. Hazy rose-gray patina covers each side of this magnificently designed pattern and partially subdues the grade-limiting hairlines.
